I always told my students that gratitude is the most important environmental value: it short-circuits the desire for more stuff. Experiencing awe and wonder inevitably leads to gratitude, and I think that an already-existing sense of gratitude leads to discovering even more awe and wonder. You’ve heard of vicious circles? I think this might be the opposite of that. What would that be called? An awesome circle? Whatever you call it, when you enter into it your life will take on new meaning and purpose, and you will find joy.
I love this short video about gratitude, with narration by Brother David Steindl-Rast.
